Countless luxury brands are redefining themselves to meet the needs of millennial buyers. Then, why are many in the real estate sector worried about following suit? Panelists at Inman Connect New York 2016 expressed the importance of not just being aware of the shift in consumer behavior brought on by the next generation, but welcoming it.
The Panel’s Take
The panelists were in agreement that transparency is key when marketing to millennials. This makes sense, since this generation has reason to be leery. They’ve grown up with information at their fingertips, so questioning brands comes natural. For real estate professionals, this shouldn’t be a cause for concern. Professionals who pride themselves on honesty, as everyone in the industry should, can only benefit from a heightened sense of ethics.
Another important point the panel made should serve as no surprise: millennials value technology. Consequently, real estate professionals need to be on the ball when it comes to utilizing new technologies and platforms. A clean, informative website is a good place to start, but it’s not enough to meet the needs of this new generation. Real estate professionals need to be on social media, blogging, and incorporating interactive elements that appeal to the information-hungry, younger crowd. Visuals are of paramount importance as well, such as 3D video tours of a home or photos of the views a luxury property offers. These elements need to be available to prospective buyers, or they’ll search elsewhere.
